From England: Milan beat Newcastle to signing of defender amid €33m agreement

Sven Botman appears to be just one step away from joining AC Milan, having been linked with the club for several months. In fact, the Rossoneri have reached an agreement with Lille for the transfer, a report claims.

Milan were linked with the Dutch defender already back in January, as the directors seemingly tried to make an attempt to anticipate the competition. A deal was never struck, but the Rossoneri continued contacts with Botman’s entourage.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier today that an agreement is very close, and now The Northern Echo add that an agreement already is in place. Milan will pay an initial fee of €33m to Lille, which could increase if certain bonuses are activated.

Botman will sign a five-year deal worth around €3.5m per year, set to become Milan’s first signing for the summer. This also means that Newcastle can count themselves out of the race, per the report, despite making two high bids in January.

The centre-back will be a good addition to the Milan squad especially since captain Alessio Romagnoli might be on his way out. Replacing him with another left-footed defender is, therefore, ideal.
