AC Milan are expected to sign another starter-level centre-back this summer, and two names stand out above all.
Milan were linked with a number of defenders during the summer window, from Joe Gomez to Manuel Akanji. Links surfaced again in the winter mercato too, but the management opted not to act to bring a senior player in to bolster the rearguard.

It feels like a necessity to address the issue before 2026-27, when the Rossoneri should be competing in Europe again and therefore will go back to having over 50 games. With Massimiliano Allegri playing a back three, having four options (plus David Odogu) simply isn’t enough in a long and testing season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin has given an interview to MilanNews in which he shed some light on the strategy for the summer window, including the centre-back department.
For the defence you wrote about two names: Kim Min-jae and Mario Gila…
“Milan have made moves on Gila, although they haven’t spoken concretely yet. His contract expires in a year. Keep an eye on the Real Madrid situation, which has a 50% stake in the sale.
“Will Lotito sell Gila to earn just €9m? History says no, even though Lazio have been selling a lot recently. It’s an open game. Tare is a great asset for Milan, he maintains a good relationship and is highly respected.”
Would Allegri choose Gila or Kim?
“Allegri would say Kim. The coach definitely needs to be involved when these discussions are being held, even if he’s not the one who has to decide. Allegri has always wanted a centre-back, both in the summer and in January. They’re limited right now.”
Gila had a fantastic game. if he plays like that, he’s worth the 25-30mil Lazio want.
I’m not against Gila, but having a standout defensive performance against this Milan isn’t really worth much in my opinion.
The team that has the lowest pressing stats in Europe, and our attack is disjointed as hell.

If the scouts and coach have always seen something in him, that’s fair, but I wouldn’t be carried away and say ‘cause of how he played against us’ we HAVE to get him.
Many times we’ve done that (RLC) and it’s not a basis to go ahead with a transfer. Sometimes works, sometimes not.
