Sky: Milan considering Conceicao ‘chance’ – why the two parties could continue

In a shock turn, AC Milan are considering the possibility of offering Sergio Conceicao a chance to stay at the club next season.

For months, the situation has been clear. Conceicao would take the club to the end of the season, and then the parties would split. Of course, there was a brief chance that the two could have continued, however, a loss in the Coppa Italia ended those suggestions.

Now, they have come back to life, though.

This evening, Igli Tare has finally been announced as the new sporting director, and with it, there have been suggestions that he could keep Conceicao at the club. Peppe Di Stefano, a Sky journalist, stated (via Milan News) that Albanian wanted to bring him to Lazio in the past, so there is a possibility.

The journalist continues, suggesting that a meeting could take place between the two to ‘understand whether they could continue or not’ in the future.

Considering the shortlist for Milan is rapidly getting smaller, with the options less and less inspiring, offering Conceicao a chance to build his Rossoneri with structure above him may not be the worst idea.

Additionally, the managerial market could be slightly more attractive next summer, which could see the Portuguese offered continuity in a ‘steady the ship’ like setting.

    1. I was a big supporter of bringing Conceicao last summer, and giving him the entire pre-season to shape the team his way.
But here is my concern now.
My issue is not the terrible results. In a full season, I don’t doubt that he’s a better coach than Fonseca.
But it’s also true that he failed where both Fonseca and Pioli failed. Instilling discipline in the team.
the biggest blows we had this season were the getting knocked out against Feynoord, and losing the Coppa final against Bologna.
In both instances, the turning points were red cards (on Theo, and Santi Gimenez), which were completely unnecessary, and reflected a deep misunderstanding of the players commitment towards, first and foremost, their own teammates.

This is more important than tactics and technical details. This is about the very character of the club and the team. No coach ever comes back from that, and I don’t see why Conceicao would be an exception.

  1. So just because Tare wanted to bring him to Lazio at some point he wants to continue with him? BS.

  2. Wow… so it looks like we’ve blown it with Conte (twice) Allegri sucks a$$ anyway, Gasp is never going to leave Atalanta, RDZ Motta Fabregas Xavi are all major gambles (again) and we’re left with Mancini and a grumpy Communist… Is keeping Sergio such a bad idea? I honestly don’t know what’s happening this point…

          1. Not sure it’s a problem with his balls more like ADL – but there’s only about a 5% chance he’s joining Milan anyway so we’ll be left with Mancini or some garbage…

        1. I want to believe it’s a joke, except if the new sporting director is already working for inter Milan and juve. I loved Sergio when he came on maybe because of the super Copa, but when I found out he had nothing to offer Milan my view about him changed. If he starts the season by August Bonera will take over by December and Milan will be relegated by April.

      1. He just won a scudetto he is better than all of those options and that’s not me saying so it’s the title he lifted talking

    1. What do you mean? Circus is happening again. No surprises there. Same people in charge. Same results.

      1. Yeh another complete U-turn by these looney tunes on Sergio – I don’t know why I’m surprised…

        1. Im just glad you guys are coming to your senses, some of us told you long time ago how bad this management is.

          1. As I’ve said before I gave them the benefit of the doubt seeing as the season hadn’t happened yet… I checked out with them around the time they were p*ssing about with Lopetegui Emerson Royal etc

    2. We didn’t blow it with Conte this time any more than we did with Motta last season – Juve offer him a more attractive opportunity.

      1. We definitely blew it with Conte. Ibra said it himself, Conte is a big personality adding him to the mix would have been a sh*t show because Conte would have exposed them. Except that it still exploded in their faces. The fact that Conte made Napoli wait thinking Milan would hire showed that he wanted to come. Milan was his first choice not Napoli.

        1. Yeah man Conte was horrible at Spurs, they even won something after he left, whats your excuse for that?

          1. He just won a scudetto what happened at spurs doesn’t really matter anymore his stock is up again. And spurs were fortunate to win Europa it’s not like they played good football, they got slaughtered in the prem

    3. Anyone saying to keep concecao is sick. Some of the worst milan football i have ever seen. I prefer even Fonseca. This team needs an Italian coach that understands this league. Obvoius you struggle with common sense calling Allegri trash. Allegri first of all won the scudetto with milan already not to mention all the other trophies with Juve. A proven coach not like all yhe other ones you want especially that clown conceicao

      1. Yeah your passport is really important

YOU ARENT EVEN ITALIAN stfu about Italian this Italian that

  3. Well, if Milan can’t get a proven coach like Conte, it is probably better to keep Sergio than make even more gambles.

      1. Who can? This bunch have looked unwilling/unable to listen to anyone at times this season.. Maybe if Ancelotti came back he could get a rise out of them…

        1. I bet Conte could.

Problem is no one knows what the F is happening at the top and what the actual project is (if there is one)…

Are we rebuilding? Are we just trying to maintain the Top4 status quo? Are we witnessing Furlani tank the club so that Elliott can “re-buy” it on the cheap then turn around and sell it to someone else? Is this a sabotage aimed at Cardinale? Is there anyone actually concerned with the sporting side of this club?

Milan feels like the Syrian conflict – neutral ground for Elliott and RedBird to fight for control without repercussions and accountability.

          1. The power struggle is real at ACM. I think some of it been there before Red Bird but more open with Red bird. That’s why Boban left. Furlani is power hungry looking out for his status instead of the good of the club. The more this circus is unfolding the more in understand M&M sacking. They weren’t in too much for personal glorification but improvement of the team. That’s why they felt threatened by Maldini given he’s a legend at the club, popular with fan and not afraid to speak up. It’s just my theory only time will tell.

      2. Maybe those players who lack motivation should be sold. Pioli could not motivate, Fonseca could not motivate, Sergio can’t motivate. Unless you can get a coach like Conte, which seems to not be possible anymore, you can’t be sure that a new coach will be able to motivate those lazy players.

As many of us noted when Sergio was hired, if he failed, it would prove that Milan’s main problem is the mentality of many of its players. They need to go, no coach can make them win if they don’t want to in the first place.

Sergio is not fit for Milan, but making new gambles can be even worse. That is how Man U’s downfall started. Inzaghi was not good enough in his early phase at Inter, but improved with time. l would move on Sergio only if a proven guy like Conte was the replacement.

ADL was smart to take Conte last summer, and quickly make Allegri ready this summer just in case. He learnt his lesson last season.

        1. That’s the problem with management they haven’t learned to start their Mercato early on. They wait mid June to July. When was the last time we signed a free agent player on Pre-contract? That’s the main issue.

  4. Conte is going to Juventus. Max Allegri is going to Napoli. Italiano will continue his contract with Bologna. Gasperini won’t leave Atalanta. RDZ, Motta, Xavi, Farioli & Fabregas are major gambles. We are left with Sarri, Mancini, Jorge Jesus, Dunga… We should stick with Conceiçao, we should give him a proper season.

  5. Ironically he finished ahead of Italiano and Bologna even tho that seems to be a popular choice.

Conte, Allegri and RDZ ships have already sailed. Once again Fulani outmaneuvered by not being able to make a timely decision.

Keeping SC isn’t the worst idea but the roster has to be sorted out. Not my first or second choice, however decent options are running out.

  6. keep Sergio, get Ndoye+Chiesa for Leao+Sottil+Chuk, and a good CB for Tomori. I’d bet on a scudetto.

  7. Conceicao just did not make a case for himself. Why continue with him. Our biggest own goal will be to continue with somebody who clearly never showed up. My concern was not the so many games we lost but the fact that our game never improved. Every small team ran circles around us and we could not collect points from the big teams. Nothing worked with Conce, except taking care of Inter but that did not give us any respectability. Get Sarri/Mancini for crying out loud. Or let’s reset, build with a some of our Futuro players like Barca and write off the next 3 seasons with zero expectations.

    1. Sergio showed his limitations in these few months at helm, we sure don’t need a whole season of this. Half a season was more than enough to try and turn things around but players did not respond. Look at Roma and Ranieri. That’s a positive response. Ours was just a prolongued agony.

Thank you but no thank you.

  8. In my opinion, no club succeed if it’s keeps changing coach every season. Milan had suffered it before we got Pioli who stabilised the club and won us the scudetto. So given Concecao a chance next season won’t be a bad idea, at least for continuity sake, except they are willing to bring in Conte, Sarri or Italiano.

    1. My opinion still remains the same, give Concecao a full season, and get rid of all the lazy players in the squad.. he is a good coach just needs chance

      1. Pioli was not proven but he managed to turn things around after taking over from Giampaolo. So, proven or not proven, we needed a response after horrible first part of the season under Fonzy. And all it happened was prolongued agony. A proper coach should be able to turn things around in half a season. Sergio made it even worse.

  10. I agree that half a season with Conceciao was more then enough. God damn.
If they can’t get Conte then even unproven coaches like Motta, Italiano,DeRossi would be better options , heck even Pioli coming back would be better then Sergio.
How many more fumbling first halves do you need to see ? Horrible first half displays . Those games against Zagreb and the home leg against Feyenoord …the Coppa final against Bologna.Smh.What’s the point of continuing with Conceciao. He is not suited to the big Italian clubs.

  11. Conceciao can win, he just needs a chance. Keep him and get him some high intensity players. Leao must leave.

    1. Side with the p*ick who insulted the club captain over a player that has delivered success for you.

      The modern fan.

      1. Don’t forget about the imploding “i’m not here to make friends” statement immediately after winning Supercoppa. Some way to kickstart your new job.

  13. Yes, he deserves that chance! He got Milan two 2 finals in 5 months. He’s someone definitely worth considering and to put your confidence in. 🙏🏼🇵🇹

  14. Not that most people care but there’s no way I’m coming back while this p*ick remains.

Not after his treatment of Calabria.

We need a clear out at least at manager level for me to even consider coming back.

  15. His choices cost us the champions league, it’s a fact (insisting on playing Musah and Felix), and the coppa Italia. Not playing the formation suitable to the players we have. Not playing the youths. Never getting the starting lineup right, always have to switch tactics in game. Coming from behind by flooding with attackers. We cannot after all we have seen, be seriously considering keeping this coach.

    1. Do you know we’re banter era rn? Do you think top coach or players wanted to go the team that only participate in local league? Then they must be a diehard player or a lionheart player whenever they join not for the faint of heart club. We gotta live with that IF No One wanted to join the club, that’s a big IF.

      1. We are far from banter. We have quality. We have bad management when it comes to sporting aspects at least

        1. 63 points collected this season say banter era. Last time we collected 63 points in a season was 16/17 with Montella.

  16. This approach is not correct! You can say whatever about all the technical and financial aspects of choosing a coach. We are talking about the principle of one of the biggest football clubs in the world: you need a more elegant and classy playing style coach to lead this club! Conceicao doesn’t have both, bad people management, lack of anger management, slugish communication & most important poor playing style.

  17. Even if we run out of option. We can still make do with Palladino of Florentina. Conceiceo should leave. Even at Porto, his team playing style wasn’t encouraging. Not a joy to watch.

  18. Sergio Consaisao is best coach for Milan . If milan mgt has given his chance to stay at milan next year I am so glad . He will become better coach than previous time &then Milan compute for scudetto not only for champions league place . If Sergio couldn’t do that Milan sack him but best players could stay at Milan next year especially cappello count 7 players stay at milan .

  19. If there’s no better alternative available, Sergio should continue and function as a steady pair of hands till we land the intended target.

He knows the players and they know him. Maybe with a full preseason results will improve.

Bit it doesn’t make sense to change coaches just for the sake of it.

  20. from my own point of view the man is a good coach at least for so many year he is the only coach that was able to contail intermilan. but his style of play was a dissastroys one for that matter, sergio should if at all he want to continiou is not about giving another chance but is all about willing to make amend and change your pattern and tactice to make milan fans happy.

  21. The man has been tactically bested by every team beneath us and above. He actively chooses to start players like RLC, Musah, and Felix out of pure stubbornness when he’s seen time and time again they are a liability. He has no control over th dressing room, cant motivate anyone whatsoever, can’t instill anything resembling a winning mentality, cant instill an identity or playing style of any kind, and is the most unprofessional manager weve had in years. His childish refusal to shake Calabrias hand after his team outsmarted us is all you need to see. Get a real manager, not an angry clown that nobody wants to play for
