Laudisa: Milan missed out on €12m deal for Benfica star because they ‘preferred Yacine Adli’

AC Milan may well be left feeling some regret that Enzo Fernandez got away from their grasp, but it is not Renato Sanches that they chose to pursue instead.

Milan used the summer transfer window to try and plug some gaps in their squad with generally young and unproven players, with the major outlay being on Club Brugge playmaker Charles De Ketelaere, who joined Brahim Diaz and Yacine Adli in that department.

The decision to sign De Ketelaere turned Milan away from other targets but it turns out that opting to sign Adli from Bordeaux had the same effect, with Enzo Fernandez going to Benfica for €12m where he is now exploding.

La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Carlo Laudisa spoke about Fernandez during an interview on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel in which he was asked about the idea of the Argentine midfielder being a regret for the management.

“He ended up at Benfica for 12 million euros, while Milan preferred Yacine Adli,” he said (via PianetaMilan).
