ESPN: England aspirations key as Milan battle Spurs and Barcelona for Man Utd playmaker

AC Milan are ready to battle Barcelona and Spurs for the signing signing Jesse Lingard on a free transfer from Manchester United in the summer, a report claims.

ESPN report that Lingard will be out of contract in June and Tottenham are among the clubs who are keen on landing the 29-year-old, who is expected to make a decision on his future based on where he will get the most playing time given he has made just eight league appearances for United so far this season.

Spurs ‘have registered their interest in Lingard’ but are ‘yet to make a formal offer’ as per the source, with Milan and Barcelona having also thrown their names into contention with both keen on signing a quality attacking midfielder in a low-cost deal.

There is another motivation for Lingard too: he wants a spot back in the England squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after his loan spell at West Ham got Gareth Southgate’s attention.
