CorSport: Milan medical staff may not risk Maignan against Monza – the latest

Mike Maignan may not make his return against Monza on Saturday as the medical staff do not want to take any risks, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the return of Maignan  who has been out for about a month due to sustaining a muscle injury in his left calf, which forced the club to call Ciprian Tătărușanu up to the UEFA squad list.

The main target for the Rossoneri staff is to have Maignan available for the trip to Croatia to face Dinamo Zagreb in the fifth matchday of Group E in the Champions League, which feels like a must-win to stand a chance of qualifying for the round of 16.

However, the paper adds that this does not automatically mean he will not be available for the game on Saturday 22 October at 18:00 against Monza. The Frenchman even felt ready to play in Verona last Sunday but – in agreement with the medical staff – he preferred not to risk a relapse.

With Tătărușanu in goal, Milan have conceded an average of one goal every 64 minutes of play (the Romanian has played five games so far) whereas with Maignan at the beginning of the season it was one every 81 minutes.
