MN: Milan pushing for their own stadium solution amid frustration over bureaucracy

As the delays persist over the plans to build a new stadium that were announced three years ago, AC Milan are thinking of taking matters into their own hands.

MilanNews speaks about the now well-known delays with Italian public administration due to paranoia, party conveniences, committees that shouldn’t count for anything, measures to be reviewed and much more. In the end it is up to the administration to take a stand, and Beppe Sala has not done enough which has caused the Milan leadership to become restless.

There are other solutions that are much more straightforward too because Sesto San Giovanni for example would love to welcome Milan, and there are other private areas under consideration too. These would have a shorter bureaucratic process and they could break ground two years sooner than with the current plans.

Milan need a new stadium to generate revenues and bridge the gap to Europe’s elite. An estimate made in recent months has established that a club-owned stadium can produce from €80-100m in revenues per year, something RedBird are well aware of.

Despite the desire to reach the elite, the new stadium cannot be elitist. Capacity is a highly debated topic among fans and insiders, because having a stadium with less than 65,000 seats could be limiting, but the prices of tickets and season tickets must be considered.

The ticket sales for Milan vs. Spurs had a high average cost and even the third tier was selling for €99, yet it was sold out and brought a club record in terms of revenues, but it should not become a trend. Fans should not be thought of as customers, so a balance must be found.
