Romano: Milan in talks over midfielder they believe will be ‘perfect to replace Franck Kessie’

AC Milan believe that they have identified the perfect replacement for Franck Kessie and are currently working to sign him, according to a report.

It is now common knowledge that Kessie will depart Milan after five years at the club having chosen a new adventure in Spain with Barcelona, and that has left the management with a big gap to fill in order to ensure the squad does not get weaker as a result.

Fabrizio Romano spoke to CBS Sports about the upcoming mercato for Milan and in particular how the management are currently planning to strengthen the squad currently available to Stefano Pioli, with four positions on the list including a new midfielder.

“A new midfielder, 100%. Renato Sanches is top of the list for Milan, they wanted him in January, he was close. There was an agreement between Milan and Lille but then was not so close the agreement with his agent Jorge Mendes, his agent, so that’s why it was complicated to complete a deal on deadline day,” he said.

“But now for AC Milan he is still a priority. They want him. They are convinced that Renato Sanches will be perfect to replace Franck Kessie who is going to Barcelona at the end of the season, but at the moment there is still nothing completed between the clubs, Milan and Lille.”

Romano also spoke before the bit on Sanches about the ownership situation, stating that we should know more in the coming weeks about whether Investcorp will buy Milan and adding that a number of verbal agreements are currently on stand-by until the situation is cleared up.
