Romano: Milan in talks over midfielder they believe will be ‘perfect to replace Franck Kessie’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan believe that they have identified the perfect replacement for Franck Kessie and are currently working to sign him, according to a report.

It is now common knowledge that Kessie will depart Milan after five years at the club having chosen a new adventure in Spain with Barcelona, and that has left the management with a big gap to fill in order to ensure the squad does not get weaker as a result.

Fabrizio Romano spoke to CBS Sports about the upcoming mercato for Milan and in particular how the management are currently planning to strengthen the squad currently available to Stefano Pioli, with four positions on the list including a new midfielder.

“A new midfielder, 100%. Renato Sanches is top of the list for Milan, they wanted him in January, he was close. There was an agreement between Milan and Lille but then was not so close the agreement with his agent Jorge Mendes, his agent, so that’s why it was complicated to complete a deal on deadline day,” he said.

“But now for AC Milan he is still a priority. They want him. They are convinced that Renato Sanches will be perfect to replace Franck Kessie who is going to Barcelona at the end of the season, but at the moment there is still nothing completed between the clubs, Milan and Lille.”

Romano also spoke before the bit on Sanches about the ownership situation, stating that we should know more in the coming weeks about whether Investcorp will buy Milan and adding that a number of verbal agreements are currently on stand-by until the situation is cleared up.

  1. This is nonsense. He is nothing like Kessie. Management knows it, Sanches knows it, fans know it. Seems only journalists are clueless. He is a completely different profile, technically better, way more creative. Can play as DMC, MC AMC even MR, so way more versatile but god awful in defense. His shirt number is 10 in Lille ffs. He is another midfielder, but he is not gonna be Kessie replacement. If anyone is going to do that, it will be Pobega.

  2. Not in any way similar to Diaz. He is way stronger while Diaz looks so weak and. can easily be muscled out of possession.
Not Kessie replacement though, but gonna be a flexible addition to allow Tonali more space in defensive midfield phase.

  3. He is supposed to play in front of Benacer and Tonali and in this position he is way more creative than Kessie so this work perfectly.

  4. If Milan continues to play 4231, than Kessie’s replacement is already playing at Milan and he has already replaced him. His name is Sandro Tonali

    1. Guys…. Kamara (marseille) is in talks with Villa to join on a free.

Why the hell Milan not snapping him up? Young , cheap, csn play DM or even CB. Surely we are more attractive than a mid table club from Birmingham?

      1. Because unfortunately Kamara wants 7.5M per season….otherwise he’s he would be perfect replacement for Kessie but I don’t see us spending 7.5M per season on him.

  5. Bennacer as regista tonali right box to box sanches left box to box wow 👏 that’s gonna be good.
