Milan target reveals ‘life is changing’ as post-Maignan links emerge: “Part of football”

Over the next eight months, there are going to be a lot of rumours about goalkeepers, with Mike Maignan’s future at AC Milan looking clouded.

The situation with Maignan is not getting any better. In fact, it is probably getting worse, whilst he progresses, which is certainly a conundrum. Milan want the extension now – one that they didn’t want a few months ago – and he no longer does, or at least not yet.

Until there is a definitive no from either party, an extension could happen, and the Rossoneri are waiting to play certain cards. Ultimately, just because he can start talking to others in January does not mean he necessarily will.

Restes to Milan?

In the meantime, several alternatives have been linked to the club; most have been young ‘keepers who are ready for the next step as starters. One option is Guillaume Restes, the French goalkeeper from Toulouse, and he spoke to MilanNews about the rumours.

“After the silver medal at the Olympics, do AC Milan now want me too? My life is changing. But I’m at Toulouse now and I’m focused on Toulouse. Rumors like those about AC Milan are part of football. My focus, however, is solely on this club. We’ll see what happens next…”

  1. If Mike doesn’t renew can we sign an Italian please. There’s plenty of talented italian keeps right now

  2. Ok, mighty mike is super – remember his fantastic save from gatti in juve match? On the other hand he can make mistakes at times (which goalie doesn’t ???) and has frequent injuries.

Ok, furlani seems to have mightily offended him when he lowered his previous offer and put forward a salary lower than previously (apparently) agreed. But that should now be all over especially if milan are ready to come up with new offer.

Maignan’s apparent refusal to discuss new contract with milan is however not acceptable and leaving the issue hanging till the very end is hurtful. If Maignan wants to join chelsea, ok, no problem, let him go.

Perhaps milan management may give him up to end october/mid november to make up his mind. If he still wants to join chelsea, we should immediately try to get carnesecchi or suzuki who are both used to serie A or else decide to pitch for torriani if he is really so good.

IN ANY WAY THIS SAGA SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRAG BEYOND NOVEMBER.

    1. They rejected the €18m offered by Chelsea for a goalkeeper in the final year of his contract. Player was willing to go there and the price was just about right but Milan5 refused the offer. If he decides to see out his contract and walk on a free, don’t blame him, blame the guys who reneged on the previous agreement and still wouldn’t sell for what can be considered a fair price for a goalkeeper in the last year of his contract.

      1. If we achieve anything this season that would definitely be partly due to Mike. Would that 18 million be more important than that? And the hassle of having to get a new goalkeeper.

        1. You’re absolutely right but they should know that the situation is like a double edged sword. Mike could help you get something this season but if you go that route then you stand the risk of losing him on a free. Time will tell if they made the right decision. The €18m was guaranteed but you know Milan fans panicked after the first loss of the season.

    2. They wanted him to stay and give Allegri a chance to convince him to stay beyond that. The best thing the club can do is keep the positive results, demonstrate better and better football so that Mike believes there’s a real project.

10 matches are not sufficient for him to make that important decision, so if they push him to decide now, he will leave for sure.

  3. If he leaves, I wish Tare can work his magic and bring ter Stegen to Milan. Ederson would’ve been nice but he plays for Fenerbahce now. Torriani is actually the guy but seeing as they can’t trust their own, I didn’t mention him.

    1. Dear SheerWill96 – why go for an old goalie? Ter stegen and Ederson are not young any more!!!! So go for young, promising keeper who can stay (hopefully) with us for many years.

      1. True but we’re talking about goalies with so much experience who know what it means to win. And they have so much quality also just like Modric who’s 40 but plays like he’s 20. I remember Buffon keeping till his mid 40s. The way football is right now, you can no longer look at the long term rather you look at the present. It’s like Chelsea handing players 8 head deals only to sell them in two years. That’s the direction the sports has taken and we have to go with it too. Personally I’d like to see Torriani there but we never think highly of our own so…
