TMW: The background on Milan’s previous agreement with Leao and when updates are expected

Rafael Leao’s renewal with AC Milan continues to be a puzzle but there are developments expected before the break for the World Cup, a report claims.

TMW write that the Rossoneri management met with the lawyer Ted Dimvula to discuss a possible agreement, without putting any offer on the table, and Paolo Maldini publicly admitted to being confident things get done.

One thing is certain: Leao wants to stay at Milan and he would be willing to sign a renewal worth €7m net per season fixed, but the Milan management are looking to pay €6m plus bonuses. There would have been no problems if there were no change of agent as the talks with Jorge Mendes were going well, but he no longer has the power of attorney.

Milan had found an agreement in February at around €4m per year, but then Leao asked for more and the €19.5m fine owed to Sporting CP complicated things, as did the change of agent that took everyone by surprise.

Now news is expected by November 15, i.e. before the World Cup. Otherwise a sale would not be excluded, perhaps not in January but almost certainly in June – 12 months from the deadline – when the asking price cannot be €120m.
