In the last few months, there have been many rumours about the future of Gigio Donnarumma, whose contract will expire in the summer. It’s not exactly a surprise, considering the quality of the goalkeeper.

As highlighted by Matteo Calcagni of MilanNews, there is no doubt that the Juventus environment is allowed to dream about signing Donnarumma. However, when looking at the case with the reality lens, logic is heading in a different direction.
The Bianconeri aren’t exactly in an excellent financial situation and they haven’t secured Champions League yet, weighed down by very hefty wages. Furthermore, they already have a deal with Szczesny until 2024, valued at €6.5m per year net.
Although Donnarumma would technically arrive for free, that isn’t the case when you consider the commissions of Mino Raiola (his agent) and the salary of about €20m gross per year. In total, it would be an operation well over €100m.
In addition to this, the goalkeeping position isn’t one that Juventus desperately need to reinforce. Even with Donnarumma in goal this season, they wouldn’t have been closer to the Scudetto, at least not by much.
As Calcagni continues, nobody can say for sure if Donnarumma will remain at Milan or leave after the season. However, it’s clear that even if the renewal is difficult, leaving the Rossoneri for another club is even tougher.
