MN: Kjaer to be called up for Milan-Rennes but Chukwueze misses out

A decision has been made regarding two of the players who were doubts for tomorrow night’s Europa League play-off tie first leg against Stade Rennais at San Siro.

On the eve of the game there were a couple of question marks regarding whether two players would be available for the match, namely Simon Kjaer and Samuel Chukwueze.

Kjaer did a warm-up on his own and then joined the rest of the squad for some athletic work today after feeling muscle discomfort following the Napoli win, meaning his availability was unknown.

Meanwhile, Chukwueze has just returned to Italy after the long overnight journey from Nigeria after losing the African Cup of Nations final.

As MilanNews reports, Pioli confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Kjaer is feeling better and therefore should be available for the game against the Ligue 1 side tomorrow.

Chukwueze on the other hand will not be called up, despite the fact that he is expected to train alone at Milanello this afternoon.

What that means for the predicted line-ups remains to be seen but having the Dane back should in theory negate the use of Theo Hernandez as a centre-back, while not having the Nigerian is a blow in terms of bench options.
