MN: Moncada renews and Milan formalise appointment of new sporting director

Rumours emerged earlier today that AC Milan will have a new sporting director moving forward, and now they have been confirmed.

The departure of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara from their roles as the technical and sporting director respectively kick started a revolution of sorts, with owners RedBird Capital opting to go in a new direction.

That prompted some questions about who might replace the duo, but instead it became apparent that the summer window would be conducted by CEO Giorgio Furlani and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada.

However, this morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera reported that Milan will in fact hire an official sporting director to fill the void left by Massara in Antonio D’Ottavio.

MilanNews confirm that Milan formalised the hiring of D’Ottavio on June 20 as sporting director of the club, as is required by FIGC regulations.

D’Ottavio has already worked for years at the club as the chief scout of the youth sector. He will work as part of a team in collaboration with Moncada, who has renewed his contract.
