MilanNews writes how Calabria’s absence has been felt a lot in recent weeks, because of what he brings to the side. The Rossoneri full-back was injured at the beginning of October against Empoli when he suffered a proximal myotendinous injury to the hamstring of his right thigh, which ended his 2022 in terms of competitive action.
Now the captain has returned to training with the rest of the squad and is therefore very much hoping to be available for the game against Salernitana, warming his engines in the Netherlands against PSV tonight.
The importance of Calabria in Pioli’s side is often underestimated. First of all, with his return, Pierre Kalulu will no longer have to play on the right side and so will be able to return to centre of defence alongside Fikayo Tomori, thus reuniting the duo that was decisive in the Scudetto win last season.
In addition to the Rossoneri captain, Alexis Saelemakers will also return to the field meaning the entire right flank will now be reunited, which should in theory take some of the pressure off Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao on the left side.
