GdS: Officials got one major decision wrong during Milan win against Tottenham

The officials in charge of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night got one major decision wrong which could have seriously affected the outcome of the game, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), Swiss referee Sandro Scharer and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team failed to send a Tottenham defender off during the Champions League round of 16 first leg.

At the beginning of the second half, Cristian Romero put in a very forceful challenge with his studs showing against Sandro Tonali and the referee decided to award a yellow card.

The VAR backed up his decision but many fans were left wondering how the challenge did not warrant a red card. Milan would likely have managed to add another goal or two were they playing against 10 players for almost the whole of the second half.

A red card would also have meant that Romero misses the second leg.
