Journalist believes Tonali will leave Newcastle ‘in 2-3 years’ and return to Milan as captain

Carlo Pellegatti has revealed his belief that Sandro Tonali will come back to AC Milan at some point in the not too distant future and will captain the side.

The 2023 summer window started in a turbulent way for the Rossoneri as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were sacked as directors, leaving a new management duo of CEO Giorgio Furlani and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada.

They reassured key players about the strength of the project and the desire to build, but then their first big decision was to sell fan-favourite Tonali when Newcastle came in with a huge offer, one they did not believe they could refuse.

According to Fabrizio Romano among other sources, the midfielder joined the Magpies for €70m including bonuses, and is earning €9m net per season for six years. It is a sale that certainly generated an interesting spectrum of reactions.

Pellegatti spoke on his YouTube channel about Tonali given that he will soon return to the field after serving his gambling ban and he made a rather bold prediction, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“In a month we will celebrate Sandrino Tonali’s return to the field. In my opinion, in 2-3 years, when he is still very young, Tonali will continue his career at Milan. It’s my idea. In my opinion, in 3 or 4 years Tonali will be the captain of Milan,” he said.
