According to Antonio Vitiello of MilanNews, Pioli tried Malick Thiaw in place of Simon Kjaer in the final bit of training before the game tonight, and seems to be willing to give the German another star after his good performance against Torino.
However, Vitiello states it would be a ‘courageous but probably correct’ choice, because Thiaw in the central position of the three-man defence will try to contain none other than Harry Kane, with Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori as support either side but with those two having to contain Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.
On the other hand, Simon Kjaer is a man with a lot more experience yet physically he is not in great shape, which is why Pioli is currently leaning towards giving Thiaw the chance to show his qualities against one of the best strikers in the world.
It is a move that ‘could be the beginning of a turning point in the future of the Milan defence’ as per the journalist, because another impressive performance from the former Schalke man would surely earn definitive trust.
