AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has one major dilemma in terms of his selection choices for tonight’s game against Spurs, a journalist has claimed.
According to Antonio Vitiello of MilanNews, Pioli tried Malick Thiaw in place of Simon Kjaer in the final bit of training before the game tonight, and seems to be willing to give the German another star after his good performance against Torino.
However, Vitiello states it would be a ‘courageous but probably correct’ choice, because Thiaw in the central position of the three-man defence will try to contain none other than Harry Kane, with Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori as support either side but with those two having to contain Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.
On the other hand, Simon Kjaer is a man with a lot more experience yet physically he is not in great shape, which is why Pioli is currently leaning towards giving Thiaw the chance to show his qualities against one of the best strikers in the world.
It is a move that ‘could be the beginning of a turning point in the future of the Milan defence’ as per the journalist, because another impressive performance from the former Schalke man would surely earn definitive trust.
Great news then
I think Tomori will have a hard time with Kulusevski. They need to have good back up against him. Theo needs to be very careful not to let him get away too much. Son isn’t that much a problem I would say. We have fast players to counteract his speed.
Kane is always hard to go up against. He has great technique and physicality. And is very clever. Thiaw or whoever goes up against him need to be aggressive but smart in how they mark him.
Well said. Totally agree. We have to remain focused for the entire game. No mental lapses. We have to show true grit.
The Spurs have scored plenty of goals from crosses. And we all know dealing with crosses is one of the many weaknesses of this team. I bet Kane will love dominating the air space tonight.
Watch, I bet Pegs doesn’t start Thiaw today.
Well… I love to be wrong sometimes. Kane was as fierce and dangerous as a 3-week-old kitten. 🙂
