Tuttosport: Pioli thinking of ditching three-man defence after March misery

It seems likely that Stefano Pioli will ditch the three-man defence when AC Milan resume action after the international break, a report claims.

The switch in formation served its purpose initially as the team recovered from a dreadful period in which they conceded 12 goals in games against Inter, Lazio and Sassuolo to register a run of clean sheets and to book a place in the last 16 of the Champions League after beating Spurs without conceding.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews) this morning, after the break Pioli could decide to abandon the 3-4-2-1 formation that he chose to give his team greater compactness after letting in too many goals during January.

He is thinking of returning to the 4-2-3-1 formation with which Milan won the Scudetto last season, because in the last few weeks the attacking department has often looked lost while in the last three league games the Rossoneri have conceded six goals despite playing three centre-backs.
