Pioli highlights Chelsea’s four main qualities: “They have spent a lot to strengthen”

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli believes his team cannot have the first game against Chelsea on their minds too much as they look to get some revenge.

It was never going to be an easy game for Pioli’s as they had to deal with several injuries within the squad as Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alessandro Florenzi Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias all missed the game, and the absences ultimately showed.

After an even start, Chelsea grew into the game and eventually managed to find the opener after a corner kick was eventually bundled home by Wesley Fofana. In the second half Milan looked more discouraged as they started to give too many balls away, which eventually led to second and third goals for Chelsea scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James respectively.

On the eve of the Champions League match against Chelsea, Pioli spoke to SportMediaset minutes before his pre-match press conference and he was asked for his thoughts ahead of the game in relation to last week’s disaster.

“In London we did not express ourselves as usual. We must not be influenced too much by that match, but we must learn from certain situations to do better tomorrow,” he said (via MilanNews).

“Chelsea are very strong, they have spent a lot to strengthen themselves. They have quality, organisation, speed and intensity. We will have to be the best possible.”
