MN: Pioli without Leao for the biggest game so far – the current plan to replace him

Stefano Pioli will have to come up with a new solution as he will be without his star man Rafael Leao for the biggest game of the season so far against Napoli on Sunday night.

MilanNews writes how referee Michael Fabbri’s decision to give Leao two yellow cards during the win over Sampdoria means the winger will miss Napoli on Sunday night, so Pioli will have to invent a new combination in the trident behind Olivier Giroud.

At the moment, the most likely scenario is that the trio behind the striker will be Junior Messias, Charles De Ketelaere and one of either Alexis Saelemaekers or Brahim Diaz on the left side, with both having played there under Pioli.

The real problem is linked to the depth of the forwards being depleted due to the physical conditions of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi. The Croatian is struggling with what is expected to be a small hernia, which creates a lot of pain, so he will have to be eased back.

Origi meanwhile is suffering from discomfort in his rectus femoris against which led him to miss the last two matches and has thrown into doubt his presence against Dinamo Zagreb, making Olivier Giroud work overtime. If he is back to face Napoli, it is likely he will allow Giroud to rest rather than be used on the left.
