Sky: Pioli tries three-man midfield and three-man defence ahead of Inter game

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli tested two new formations at training today in view of the derby against Inter on Sunday, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by Sky (via SempreMilan.it), Pioli has asked for Maximum concentration at Milanello ahead of the game against the Nerazzurri, so much so that today’s training session lasted 40 minutes longer than usual.

The broadcaster adds that the Rossoneri coach tried a new formation today: the 4-3-3. In addition to the three-man midfield, in the final training matches a three-man defence was also tested with the wing-backs essentially forming a back five.

Three days before the derby, new solutions are needed to shake things up given the awful start to 2023 and in particular the bad defensive record that has seen the team concede 18 goals in seven competitive games since the turn of the year.

Pioli tried out various players in the two systems, with Simon Kjaer among the protagonists after he was excluded from the starters against Sassuolo.
