Player Ratings: AC Milan 3-1 Hellas Verona – Leao explodes; Giroud scores again

AC Milan clinched all three points against Hellas Verona thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao (X2), ending the season with a win. Down below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): A decent game from the keeper, who wasn’t really called into action much except when he needed to come off his line and stop a 1v1, which he did well. He couldn’t do anything about the goal.

Calabria (5): He tried his luck one too many times, in attack that is, failing to hit the target by some distance on most. And he was sleeping on Verona’s equaliser.

Thiaw (5.5): Some good moments mixed with some rather poor ones. He’s still very raw, that’s becoming clear, and the consistency that a centre-back needs to have isn’t really there just yet.

Tomori (5.5): He did well to win the ball high up the pitch on a couple of occasions but also had a couple of really strange moments defending-wise. He continues to be inconsistent.

Hernandez (6): Questions can be asked on the goal, but the truth is his defenders were caught off guard way before him. And he was one of the few players that actually created something when Milan went forward.

Krunic (5.5): Not enough involvement from him tonight, even if he was – as always – a hard worker in the defensive phase and covered a lot of space in that sense.

Tonali (5.5): He didn’t quite run the show as he usually does, was the feeling this evening. Not to say that he was horrible on the ball or anything, but the midfield battle wasn’t clearly in Milan’s favour in the spaces it mattered.

Messias (4): Was he even on the pitch? It’s getting tiring to say the same things week in and week out about him – and luckily I won’t have to!

Diaz (5.5): He won the penalty after getting to a 50/50 ball first but other than that, he really wasn’t that great. Too slow with his passing and also lost the battles against a physical Verona side way too much.

Leao (7.5 – MOTM): He looked a bit tired, in truth, and lacked that edge we love so much. Up until the 85th minute that was, when he completely exploded and did what only he and perhaps Theo can do, taking matters into his own hand and finishing in style. And then he did the same again! Sealing the deal in the 92nd minute with another solo run of sorts, rounding the keeper.

Giroud (7): His third consecutive game finding the back of the net, converting the penalty with ease. He also did well to combine with his teammates tonight and won many of his duels, despite facing very strong defenders.

Substitutes

De Ketelaere (6): Bright display off the bench from him, winning the ball back and getting past his opponents when driving forward with the ball.

Pobega (5.5): He didn’t add that much to the game, in truth, and was on par with the other midfielders tonight.,

Florenzi (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating.

Saelemaekers (6): Helped set up the third goal with a nice combination with Leao, and nearly scored a nice curler himself.

Mirante (N/A): He didn’t play enough to get a rating. But thanks for your service, Antonio!
