Pobega confirms Milan tried a ‘different approach in possession’ against Real Madrid

AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega has confirmed that the Rossoneri were trying to approach their possession of the ball differently in the friendly against Real Madrid in Pasadena.

Speaking after the match which was part of the Soccer Champions Tour (via Milan News), the Italian midfielder was honest about the tactical plans for the friendly.

Much has been said about how Stefano Pioli is switching to a 4-3-3 formation, influenced by the transfer business that the club has been able to do this summer so far and the departure of Brahim Diaz back to Real Madrid.

“We are satisfied, it was an important test, we immediately raised the level. What changes compared to last season? We tried a different approach in the possession phase,” Pobega said.

One of those players that has arrived at the club to form part of that busy midfield is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. On playing with the Englishman at the Rose Bowl Stadium, Pobega said: “It is always nice to play with strong players.”

Despite having already signed Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders, the club are still working on a deal to sign Yunus Musah.

Having led 2-0 at half time through Luka Romero and Fikayo Tomori’s goals, Milan were beaten 3-2 by Real Madrid.
