Porto president reveals Milan only made ‘ridiculous offers’ for Taremi

Mehdi Taremi to AC Milan was the never-ending mercato saga in the summer. Despite the lengthy negotiations, however, the Iranian international ended up staying at Porto and their president has now revealed some background.

One of the priorities for Milan was to sign a striker to offload some responsibility from Olivier Giroud, who turned 37 in October. As the negotiations with Taremi failed, they ended up with Luka Jovic and the result hasn’t exactly been positive.

Speaking to SIC, as cited by SportMediaset, Porto president Pinto da Costa shared his thoughts on Milan’s interest and what happened in the summer. According to him, the Rossoneri never came close to the valuation of the release clause.

“For Taremi, Milan only made ridiculous offers and there wasn’t even a discussion. None of their offers came close to the value of the clause,” he stated.

The Rossoneri have certainly paid for the lack of a proper backup striker this season and it remains to be seen if Jovic can find his first goal. The Serbian is expected to start against Fiorentina on Saturday, and it could be one of his last chances to convince the Milan management.
