Cometh the moment, cometh the man. Indeed, it was Ramos once again, the man deemed the super-sub to rescue the game for Portugal as they snatched a late winner against Croatia to progress to the final 16 of the World Cup.
Combining with the outgoing Rafael Leao, he finished his chance excellently with a superb header and that was enough to seal the result, even if there was some late drama.
It rounds off an excellent week for the striker, who sealed his deal to Milan and now has played a pivotal part in his nation’s continuance in the tournament.
Goncalo’s gamble
After the game, he was intercepted in the mixed zone and he spoke to the media about his new club and offered an assurance to them, as well as his Portuguese teammates, as @ACMilanInside relays on X.
“I think Milan is a really special club. I’m very happy to go there. I’m leaving a great club to go to another great club.”
Another goal for the super sub…
“At halftime I told my teammates not to worry: if I play, I’ll definitely score. And then you saw what happened. You can ask them, they heard it… and the goal came. I had guaranteed it.”
