Milan have been in talks with Rangnick for two weeks if reports are to be believed, with Gerry Cardinale intrigued by the idea of letting him rebuild the management and the club’s ethos in his vision. However, things seem to have stalled a bit recently.
The German – just as he did six years ago when he was close to joining – is asking for full powers and no interference to best implement his methods. This is something Milan, more specifically Zlatan Ibrahimovic, seem to be a bit apprehensive about giving up.
In addition to that there is the Austria complication: he is at the World Cup with the national team, who have offered him a new deal. Matteo Moretto gave an update on things in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“It will be a very important week. There were new contacts over the weekend between AC Milan and Ralf Rangnick,” he began (via MilanNews).
“The Rossoneri are evaluating several options and the German is also trying to understand if the club from Via Aldo Rossi is ready for this change because he would only go to Milan under certain conditions, with his trusted men as sporting director and coach and with a certain mentality that could create a solid foundation for a long-term project.
“Right now, these foundations are not in place at Milan as they have to start from scratch. Gerry Cardinale is looking for someone capable of rebuilding everything from scratch. So if certain things are done in a certain way, written down and studied carefully, it’s a project that could work.
“While Rangnick has had recent contact with Milan, the same cannot be said of Ramon Planes, who hasn’t spoken to the Rossoneri since the beginning of last week. Milan is waiting for Rangnick, but he wants to fully understand Milan’s intentions.
“Milan expects a response from the German within this week, which will therefore be crucial in determining whether Rangnick will say yes or no to Milan. There have been two meetings with the German; I’m told there were three.
“He’s the person Milan have met the most. If Rangnick’s requests are met, I’m told he’s truly fascinated by the possibility of working at Milan and rebuilding a club like the Rossoneri from scratch.”
