AC Milan will do battle with RB Salzburg on Wednesday night at San Siro for a place in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.
As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, there are five main reasons, both sporting and financial, as to why the Rossoneri simply must get the result that they need.
A win or a draw will be enough for Stefano Pioli’s side to avoid dropping into the Europa League.
One reason is that getting into the next round can be worth almost another €20 million to the Rossoneri between gate receipts and prize money.
There is also the fact that this Milan team thrives in a situation where they simply have to win and are up against it, which suits the latter stages of the Champions League.
A third reason is that it would perfectly crown the recent renewal of Stefano Pioli’s contract with the club.
As well as that, reaching this new level under the coach would bring additional confidence and self-esteem to the group for the rest of the season.
Finally, there is a huge commercial benefit for the club as a product to be mixing with the best in the Champions League, which leads to more money.
