CM: Pioli’s Rebic experiment could alter January plans including pursuit of Chelsea man

The Ante Rebic experiment seen last night in the 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb could have an impact on the mercato strategy for the management, a report claims.

Milan returns from Zagreb with a fundamental victory secured in their the path to try and reach the knockout stages of the Champions League and there were a numbers of positive notes for Stefano Pioli, with Ante Rebic among them.

Daniele Longo reports for Calciomercato.com that the decision to move the Croatian to the right flank seemed to surprise Dinamo, who had concentrated their defensive efforts on trying to limit Rafael Leao on the other flank.

It is solution that could be repeated even in Serie A if the signs that follow are good, and Milan could delay their pursuit of a new right winger – with Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech the main name – until the summer if Rebic continues to play well there.

That way there will also be time to make more concrete assessments on the future of Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers who have both struggled for fitness and consistency recently.

However, it also cannot be excluded that the use of Rebic on the opposite side to his normal flank was a one-off experiment to target something specific against Dinamo and the priority might still be a winger in the winter.
