CM: Pioli’s Rebic experiment could alter January plans including pursuit of Chelsea man

By Oliver Fisher -

The Ante Rebic experiment seen last night in the 4-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb could have an impact on the mercato strategy for the management, a report claims.

Milan returns from Zagreb with a fundamental victory secured in their the path to try and reach the knockout stages of the Champions League and there were a numbers of positive notes for Stefano Pioli, with Ante Rebic among them.

Daniele Longo reports for Calciomercato.com that the decision to move the Croatian to the right flank seemed to surprise Dinamo, who had concentrated their defensive efforts on trying to limit Rafael Leao on the other flank.

It is solution that could be repeated even in Serie A if the signs that follow are good, and Milan could delay their pursuit of a new right winger – with Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech the main name – until the summer if Rebic continues to play well there.

That way there will also be time to make more concrete assessments on the future of Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers who have both struggled for fitness and consistency recently.

However, it also cannot be excluded that the use of Rebic on the opposite side to his normal flank was a one-off experiment to target something specific against Dinamo and the priority might still be a winger in the winter.

    1. Let’s not hope for bad we are all Milan fans bro. He did play bad but he also had new role. It’s clear he has to work on his touch because he making this mistake in past as well

  1. Rebic on the right is a really good option – he is unpredictable, works really hard and can definitely score – give him consistent playing time and I think he can grow into a beast on the flank!

  2. Seems ok idea at the first glance. But then, as per luck of Milan, he will get injured just after the winter market is over and again no rw for Milan :/

  3. Rebic looked awful on the right up until the 2nd half when Milan was up 2-0 and the gane was wide open because Dinamo was attacking and leaving a lot of space.
In the 1st half he was bad and constantly drifting towards the middle, that’s why few times he, Giroud and CDK were in each other’s way.
No experiments. If Milan gets thru to the knockout stages that brings extra money, 60 mil, buy a proper RW.

    1. Lol, are you on crack? Simply qualifying for the knockouts DOES NOT bring in 60m. Round of 16 is $10.89 million, QF is $12.02 million, SF is $14.18 million, runner up is $17.59 million, and winner gets $22.69 million. 60m maybe if we went to the final, which is in May anyway. I do like your wishful thinking though😬.
