Reijnders reflects on first Milan start and explains why he was happy with role

Tijjani Reijnders made his first start for AC Milan during the friendly against Juventus in Los Angeles, and he reflected on what was a useful runout.

Reijnders has been getting to grip with things and learning about his new team-mates during the USA tour so far, and Stefano Pioli deemed him ready to start from the first minute against the Bianconeri last night.

The Dutchman had some bright moments too, showing a lot of confidence in driving forward with the ball and drawing fouls in dangerous positions, while the team did let a lead slip twice to draw 2-2.

Reijnders spoke in the mixed zone after the game to the reporters present about his first start – albeit not in a competitive game – in a Milan shirt. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

On his debut as starter: “Yes, very nice. Always nice to wear this shirt and I hope to be able to wear it many other times.”

On the match: “I think we started off too frenetic but after a few minutes we got control of ball possession and got the ball rolling. So we scored two good goals. It’s a shame we drew with Juventus but I think we can do even better.”

On his position as a mezzala: “Yes, I talked about it with the coach, this is my favourite position: a number 8 who builds the game but who at the same time shows his technical qualities. That’s why I’m happy in this role.”
