Report: Mendes wants hefty Milan renewal for Leao and no release clause

Rafael Leao Milan

Rafael Leao is under contract at AC Milan until 2024 and after his proper breakout season in 2021/22, the Rossoneri are working on a contract renewal. It’s proving to be a bit difficult, though, due to the player’s agent.

Milan have been in talks with Jorge Mendes, the super agent, for quite some time now and there is a willingness to renew the current contract. However, they are not on the same page when it comes to the new salary.

According to Il Giornale (via MilanNews), Mendes has made it known that they want a contract worth €7m per year. Milan, on the other hand, have not gone about their current offer of €4.5-5m, which is a significant difference.

There is another issue as well, relating to the release clause, as the current on in the contract is set at €150m. This obviously protects Milan for the time being but Mendes wants to remove it completely in a potential new deal. The renewal, in other words, is not close currently.
