Stefano Pioli has just Fikayo Tomori as his only senior centre-back available with Simon Kjaer, Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrino out for some time yet due to injuries, prompting speculation about how the team will look tonight.
During his pre-match press conference yesterday, Pioli was asked about the possibility of trying something different to what the media have been reporting, which is using Primavera defender Jan-Carlo Simic.
“We have tried in addition to Simic a few things that you don’t know, there are other solutions. We have the right solutions to be a balanced team tomorrow,” he said.
What might that be? Well, Matteo Moretto of Relevo has the answer. He claims that Theo Hernandez was tested in the centre-back position alongside Tomori, with Alessandro Florenzi then used as the left-back. Davide Bartesaghi is also a candidate too.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) also reported this morning that the Frenchman was tried centrally in training.
Here is how the team would look in the event Theo did start at centre-back: Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Theo, Florenzi; Krunic, Musah; Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic; Jovic.
