Repubblica: Depay option still being evaluated by Milan after Atletico exit

AC Milan are wanting to sign another striker after sealing a deal for Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay’s name will not go away, a report claims.

According to the latest from La Repubblica (via MilanNews), Geoffrey Moncada and his team are working to try to give Paulo Fonseca another striker in addition to Morata, to make sure the attack is fully stocked ahead of a season with lots of games to come.

Niclas Füllkrug of Borussia Dortmund and Tammy Abraham of Roma have been mentioned but the Depay option should not be overlooked. The Dutchman is currently a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired.

The 30-year-old can play anywhere across the forward line and scored nine times for Atletico Madrid last season across all competitions.  He is a player that has been linked with Milan seemingly every summer for years, and we spoke about how he and others could form a ‘new Dutch era’ at the club.

However, a recent report from Tuttosport claimed that while the Rossoneri have explored the idea of signing Depay, they were put off by the fact that his wage demands are so high, something that might be part of the reason he did not have a club lined up.
