Chelsea are hoping that AC Milan will not stump up the cash to sign defender Fikayo Tomori on a permanent basis, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Virtually all the major sources are reporting that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want Tomori to be the third player to sign for Milan this month after Soualiho Meite from Torino and striker Mario Mandzukic.
Lampard was asked during today’s pre-match press conference about the situation surrounding Tomori and what his thoughts are regarding a potential loan spell for the 23-year-old, confirming that the plan is to send him out to get more regular playing time as he is currently the fifth-choice centre-back.
Now, transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano has shed some more light on Chelsea’s thinking behind letting such a talented young player leave.
“Chelsea hope AC Milan won’t pay the €30m to buy Tomori next summer because they want him back,” he told @QueGolazoPod.
Milan have been chasing a new central defender for months now, having failed to get a deal for Mohamed Simakan over the line, with Tomori now the No.1 target as we revealed.
