‘Too early to say’ – Fabrizio Romano addresses Man City links with Milan star

Fabrizio Romano believes that it is too early to tell whether Manchester City could make a concrete attempt to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer.

It was reported yesterday by The Sun that Milan have an interest in signing goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal subject to the possibility of Maignan being sold ahead of the 2024-25 season amid uncertainties over a potential contract renewal.

They added that Manchester City are said to be interested in the Frenchman should Ederson depart, and the Brazilian has interest from Saudi Arabia where the clubs have very deep pockets.

Speaking in his latest Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano addressed the rumours suggesting that Maignan is a target for Manchester City.

“As I recently revealed, there are chances for Ederson to leave Manchester City this summer, so it’s normal to now see goalkeepers being linked with the Premier League champions,” he said.

“However, despite links with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, I have no info yet on a new Manchester City goalkeeper, also because it will depend on what Ederson wants to do.

“At the moment it’s too early to say. Many goalkeepers will be linked with Man City now, but I don’t have anything confirmed yet.”

Thus, it seems as though a potential move for Maignan hinges on whether or not Ederson leaves and then the list of potential replacements that City draw up.
