Arrigo Sacchi has had his say on last night’s derby match between AC Milan and Inter at San Siro in which the Nerazzurri reached the final of the Coppa Italia.
The game started terribly for Milan as Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring inside five minutes with a thumping volley that Mike Maignan could only parry into the top corner, and it was 2-0 before the break when the Argentine doubled his tally with a composed finish.
There was a moment of controversy when Ismael Bennacer appeared to have halved the deficit with a low strike from outside the box but it was ruled out by VAR for an apparent offside on Pierre Kalulu that angered Stefano Pioli, and Robin Gosens added some undeserved gloss on the scoreline.
Sacchi spoke during his usual post-match column for La Gazzetta dello Sport and expressed his opinion on the game, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.
Did Inter build their success on Lautaro’s opening goal?
“Exactly that, they immediately opened the game with a good goal from Lautaro and then bet on the counter-attack. But speaking of Lautaro’s first goal, who scored it? Milan were too inattentive and the demonstration also took place in the second goal,” he said.
In the first half we saw the teams stretch in an impressive way…
“At one point, I tell you the truth, it seemed like a match between bachelors and married men. With these methods, Inter have an advantage over Milan, because they can take advantage of the higher technical quality and greater experience.
“Milan, only if they are compact, if they play ‘as a team’, like a real team, can they have their say. Otherwise there is no pressing, there is no organization, there is no synergy between departments and between individuals. If the Rossoneri are scattered around the pitch, they show all their limits.”
Milan’s forwards struggled to get into the game…
“Leao is a boy. Let’s say he doesn’t excite you for his commitment, but he has great qualities and has ample room for improvement. It is up to him to take on the future, working hard and with commitment every day.
“Giroud was served little, but in general, I repeat, Milan amazes when they play ‘as a team’. Against Inter, on the other hand, I have seen many singles scattered around the field.”
