AC Milan have a diverse range of attacking options at their disposal and last night’s game against Red Bull Salzburg showed that, a report claims.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) write that if there is one thing that Milan managed to achieve in this summer transfer window, it was the shoring up of the team’s attacking department as Charles De Ketelaere, Yacine Adli and Divock Origi arrived, all of whom can play a multitude of roles.
Stefano Pioli knows that in his forward group he has different solutions for different situations and opponents, and last night it was Alexis Saelemaekers’ turn to show just how valuable he can be.
The Belgian scored the first goal of his career in the Champions League and was among the best players on the field aside from that, putting in a lot of work on the right flank and looking very attentive in both phases.
“I’m happy for the goal, it was an intense match. We had a good match. In Europe, different football is played, but we are strong and we must also be strong in this competition,” he said after the game.
Even on an evening when De Ketelaere was limited and Giroud was disconnected from the rest of the game, Milan managed to get a contribution from a player in Saelemaekers who has struggled in recent months it would be fair to say.
Junior Messias and Yacine Adli shone in preseason, then Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic were excellent against Udinese, De Ketelaere looked sharp against Bologna and in the derby it was the turn of Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud.
Now, the challenge is to get all of the forwards contributing on a consistent basis and to get the likes of Origi and Adli feeling confidence too.
