The new San Siro project is a race against time, but the issue is AC Milan and Inter seem to have little control over it.
Today’s edition of the newspaper Il Giorno (via MilanPress) takes stock of the intricate situation regarding the future of San Siro, which has once again turned into a farce after initially beginning well.

Mayor Giuseppe Sala – and even more so Milan and Inter – intended the matter to be concluded by July, launching the urban planning project that includes a new stadium and a new district to be built by 2030.
Delays, delays and delays
That month had been identified by the council as the most favourable time to complete the deal, avoiding the Superintendency’s restrictions (which will apply from November 10th) on the stadium’s second tier due to its age.
However, the urban planning investigation that engulfed the Council has put everything on hold. In this climate, the decision on the stadium’s sale, which was supposed to be voted on in July, has been postponed.
Now the decisive vote will take place in September, with a split majority. At least five councillors have already declared their opposition to the sale of the current stadium, its demolition, and the construction of a new home for the two clubs.
The looming deadline means that Milan could be forced to look into alternative plans yet again. As a reminder, they spent €55m on a site in San Donato, where the administration seem welcoming of the idea of a new stadium.

That’s some extreme opinion. Italy, 8th worldwide in GDP, lives in the medieval era because football clubs don’t have brand new stadiums. Even rephrased it doesn’t make sense.

FFS, just got to San Donato and get this stadium issue moving in the right direction.
Agreed. San Donato is not under Sala’s Jurisdiction, and the only issue they had was the policing, which the San Donato Mayor was open to helping out with.
We paused everything because there was a chance to renovate the San Siro, but if that chance is gone, then full steam ahead with San Donato.
There’s no reason we shouldn’t have the stadium up and running by the 28/29 season if we keep to the schedule previously planned out and start breaking ground November of this year.
