AC Milan were initially a part of the Super League project that quickly got shut down, following the response of UEFA and the fans. The feeling, however, is that we haven’t heard the last from the competition.
The announcement that first revealed the competition caused a lot of anger among the fans and UEFA weren’t happy either. Eventually, the project was put on hold as all the clubs dropped out, except Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid.
In a long interview with Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), which you can read more of here, Milan president Paolo Scaroni was asked about the Super League. He confirmed that the Rossoneri have indeed taken a step back from it.
“The project for Milan is set aside. Difficult to answer for the future, it depends a lot on how institutions like Uefa will position themselves and what the fans will say. But any project will have to be agreed between the parties,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if the Super League will gain momentum once again but it’s clear that UEFA won’t be happy with this solution. In the meantime, Milan are ready for the long-awaited return to the Champions League.
