Scaroni questions the need for Coppa Italia but says Milan ‘have to win it’

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Atalanta this evening, Paolo Scaroni spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the Coppa Italia adventure. He also commented on the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Milan knocked out Cagliari in the Round of 16 and thus advanced to the quarter-finals, taking on Atalanta this evening. It’s a one-legged game and with the support of the home fans, the Rossoneri will be looking to seal their semi-final ticket.

Speaking to Mediaset ahead of the game, as cited by MilanNews, the club president Scaroni shared his thoughts on the Coppa Italia. His response perhaps wasn’t what you would expect, but at least he ended by expressing Milan’s desire to win it this season.

On the Coppa Italia…

“When we talk about the Copp Italia it begs questions, I fear that we play too many matches. And I ask myself ‘Is it really necessary?’. Then since we haven’t won it for 21 years, I say that we have to win it and engrave our name on the trophy.”

On Ibra…

“I saw Zlatan for an hour yesterday, I clarified my ideas. We talked about our past and our future. He is an extraordinary character. He can make a great contribution to RedBird because he is a character. He told me that at Milan, motivation is everything, and he is a great motivator.”

The last encounter with Atalanta finished 3-2 in favour of the Bergamo side, but that was away from home for Milan. This evening, therefore, they will be looking for revenge and clinch an important win in front of the fans.
