According to a report from Sky Sport Italia, the Italian coach has produced enough positive form in the second half of the season to warrant the final year of his contract.

With just one year to run on his deal, Milan’s failure to launch a Serie A title challenge had led many to think that Pioli would not get a new contract and would be replaced.

Milan have settled into a positive run of form recently with players returning from injury and they have a firm grip on second in the Serie A table, having won the last four league games.

Remaining in the Europa League has also been a factor in the confidence in Pioli, and the hierarchy at the club now think that the conditions are there for him to continue as coach for the foreseeable future.

A very relevant factor is that there is no obvious and affordable coach that Milan can get this summer who will be a clear upgrade on Pioli, and with a young and talented squad, there would be no harm in leaving Pioli in his post.
