Sky journalist claims results against Torino and Spurs could force Milan into ‘evaluations’ on Pioli

Stefano Pioli is not currently at risk of being sacked as AC Milan manager but more negative results would force reflections over his future, according to one journalist.

It has been a simply awful start to 2023 for Milan as they have not only gone from second to sixth in the league table after a run of five games without a win in Serie A, but they also lost the Supercoppa Italiana 3-0 to Inter and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by 10-man Torino.

The current four game losing streak across all competitions is the most worrying thing as a 3-0 defeat against Inter in Saudi Arabia was followed by a 4-0 loss to Lazio, a 5-2 defeat against struggling Sassuolo and most recently a 1-0 loss against Inter in the return league derby.

Sky’s Manuele Baiocchini spoke during an interview with MilanNews and he was asked quite simply if Pioli is at risk of losing his job given the terrible run of form.

“If it were to go badly against Torino and against Tottenham, Milan would have a streak of negative matches that was too long not to think that evaluations will be made for the future,” he said.

“Pioli did an extraordinary job, but then one cannot turn the page by having a disastrous Milan the following year. It must be said that, despite the disastrous period, Milan are only one point below the Champions League places and the season is recoverable, perhaps even trying to surprise in the Champions League. Milan are not in it just to make an appearance, but to go as far as possible.”
