Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has shed some light on why AC Milan believe that Niclas Füllkrug is the right deal to seize.
One of Milan’s goals for the upcoming January transfer window is to acquire a natural centre-forward to strengthen their attacking department, given that Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez are both stuck on zero league goals at present.

It seems Füllkrug is the man that they have chosen, with various sources claiming that Milan are progressing towards agreeing a loan deal before the end of the year to go through when the window opens. Doubts have arisen about the fact that he has three goals in 18 months for West Ham, though.
‘A good fit for Milan’
Peppe Di Stefano spoke to MilanNews and he gave a bit more insight into why Milan have decided to turn to the former Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund man.
“Milan lacked a physically robust striker – the size, height, and experience. Fullkrug is a 1993-born international-level player who hasn’t played much in the last year, but the pace in the Premier League is different,” he said.
“Giroud also played and didn’t play in the Premier League. The pace is different in Italy than in England. Fullkrug would be a good signing. I realised that Milan needed a striker when, against Lazio in Rome, in the last 15 minutes, they had no one, even just to break down the opposition’s defence.
“I believe that if Milan were to sign a striker like Fullkrug, the club would want a player with those characteristics. So, consequently, value for money, at practically minimal costs, the German could be a good fit for Milan.
“It’s clear that if you’re going to play in Europe next year, you need to expand your squad with quality in attack and defence, because you realise every time he drops his level when he makes substitutions.”
Inclined to agree. Giroud also wasn’t a 20 goal striker, but he was a very good focal point in different physical matches. He made the other players play better. I can see Füllkrug fill that niche. Also, it’s true that for a striker, the prem and Serie A are not comparable
I have more a problem with Allegri’s inability to read different games. Vs Inter, sure you defend a lead, but vs Sassuolo you don’t try to defend a 2-1 lead. And I think that even if Allegri had – let’s say – Pellegrino on the bench, he would have still opted to bring Ricci and switch to a 3-6-1.

This guy is sitting on a terrible West Ham’s bench and hasn’t scored all season? Sigh, not feeling great about this deal, but anything is an improvement over Gimenez I guess.
