GdS: Theo Hernandez gets opportunity to prove he is among the elite on the big stage

Theo Hernandez made his World Cup debut with France in less than ideal circumstances but he seized the opportunity that came to him.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall how the Rossoneri full-back entered the field in place of his brother Lucas who – as it turns out – suffered a serious injury to the ligaments in his knee and will therefore be out for several months.

Theo provided a great performance against Australia in France’s World Cup debut in Qatar on Tuesday night, putting a peach of a cross on Adrien Rabiot’s head for the equaliser, but also making his usual penetrating runs that created space for the forwards, such as his team-mate Olivier Giroud who netted a brace.

Due to the fact Lucas is now out for the tournament, his younger brother will have the opportunity in the coming games to show that the match against Australia was just a starting point and there is more yet to come.

Since Theo arrived at Milan, the question has often arisen about whether he can become the best left-back in the world, and the World Cup could also help answer this question with the likes of Joao Cancelo, Alphonso Davies and Nuno Mendes present.
