The Portuguese winger scored the opening goal against Genoa on Friday evening and thus restored some much-needed confidence. He has found the back of the net nine times in the league this season and twelve times overall.
As per Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Milan are working on the renewal of Leao but they are yet to reach an agreement. The current deal will expire in 2024 and there are two reasons behind the renewal stalemate.
First of all, Jorge Mendes is asking for a significant pay rise for his client and while Milan are willing to go quite high, a middle ground has to be found. Furthermore, the potential sale of the club to the Arab fund Investcorp is taking up the main focus of the technical department. Leaving the Leao renewal until after the sale could be the path.
