AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is thinking of changing formation again, according to a report, and it could benefit Davide Calabria.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning, a sliding doors moment has presented itself to captain Calabria in light of a couple of different factors. The right-back had a difficult start to 2023 as the team were a horror-show defensively and then he picked up an injury.
The switch to a three-man defence meant that he could not slot straight back in upon his return, but the paper claims that a couple of things will work in Calabria’s favour in terms of getting a starting spot back.
The first is that Pioli is expected to return to a four-man defence for Sunday evening’s match against Napoli, and the second is that Pierre Kalulu has unfortunately suffered an injury on international duty making him the obvious choice at right-back.
After a difficult season so far, it is time for Calabria to show his value to the squad with Fikayo Tomori and either Malick Thiaw or Simon Kjaer next to him.
