The dust is settling and the tears are drying after Giroud, Stefano Pioli and Simon Kjaer brought their respective tenures at Milan to a close during Saturday night’s bizarre 3-3 draw against Salernitana at San Siro.
There were heartfelt speeches, acknowledgements from the crowd and even a farewell goal for the Frenchman to celebrate underneath the supporters, but the time has now arrived for the striker to begin a new chapter in his career.
Milan published a ‘Behind the Scenes’ on their YouTube channel dedicated to Olivier Giroud ‘s last day at Milanello, which was the day before the Salernitana game given that is when the last training session was.
“When I’m off the pitch, at Milanello, I always try to think about something else. Not always and just football, which always remains in the head and heart, with passion. But there is a life with family and children: when I lose, they always give me a smile,” he said.
“At Milanello the fans give me gifts, I have some from yesterday here [in the car]. I also posted some on social media. I have put aside many of the things they gave me: I will make a room in my house with all the things they gave me. Memories, paintings….
“I will miss Milanello, also for the type of training centre it is… in the woods, in nature. It is special. When you think that so many great players have trained here, it’s truly historic.”
