Journalist Antonio Vitiello believes that AC Milan would be repeating previous mistakes, if the mercato does not accelerate soon.
As we wrote about in a recent feature, there is a worrying lack of news regarding incomings for Milan, all while Massimiliano Allegri continues to get the squad ready for their departure on preseason tour, which will take place on Saturday.

While the management are quite obviously operating and working on multiple different negotiating tables at once, the lack of progress is there for all to see and all while the clock keeps ticking. At present, the only new signing Allegri has is Ricci, given Luka Modric will not arrive until early August.
‘Don’t make the same mistake’
Vitiello published his weekly column for MilanNews in which he spoke about the Ardon Jashari saga and above all about the lack of transfer business done to this point by Igli Tare and co.
“Transfer news: as of today, July 15th, we’re stuck with Modric and Ricci, meaning a free transfer and a player practically secured last January. Where are the other signings?
“It’s true that there’s still a month and a half left until the end of the transfer window, but we’re still short of two starting full-backs, at least one more midfielder, a backup for Leao if Okafor/Chukwueze leave, and most importantly, the striker.
“Remember Fonseca last year complaining in a press conference about only receiving his signings at the end of August? Well, don’t make the same mistake. Often, spending a few million more to bring forward signings can be the best strategy, rather than always waiting for opportunities at the end of the transfer window.
“The motto ‘there’s no rush’ didn’t work at all last year. Allegri needs to work with the full squad as soon as possible; there’s no point in starting the retreat so early if you’re then working with at least seven or eight players who will have to leave, and others who will arrive later.”

This is becoming a pattern. There are too many issues to address in the squad because the management have been creating unnecessary holes. We looked all set in defense a season or two ago with Thiaw, Gabbia, Tomori, Simic, Kalulu, Jimenez, Calabria, Theo, and Bartesaghi (all under 30 years old). Now, despite spending 35 million on the defense last season, we need two or three more signings. We still also need a striker and a midfielder, otherwise we would be relying on the players deemed not good enough last season (Okafor, Musah, Loftus-Cheek, Bennacer, Adli) to save the team.
Ricci and Modric are decent signings but we need at least four more quality starters. Time is running out.
You are right there are too many holes to fill, each year management dig more.

Imagine the number of goals and assists they make, where will that be replaced?
Last summer we were all happy Fofana signed as we desperately needed a midfielder but nobody dared to ask who would be backup? We had none, so Tiji and Fofana played every game.
Now we are looking for starting full backs, well just be prepared when we have no backups.
I’m confident we will see more sales of good players like Thiaw, and then struggle to replace them.
My word why can’t they understand, you keep good settled players and fill the gaps first, then and only then do you attempt to upgrade positions
Don’t worry Vitiello…. Pobega and Sale are our new full backs, Bennacer will be like a new signing. Redbird knows how to promote within the club. Only looser teams like Inter, Napoli and Juventus are spending money on quality players. naa brother…. it was for the club to be in the green on the accounts for the past season. Basically we start from scratch for this transfer window. Theo sale is the only sale that counts for this transfer window.
Milan replace our coach and fail, we sold Kessie never replace him, Tonali was sold and Maldini but yet they talk about a Italian core. We sign Emerson, but we still don’t have a starting RB. Theo will never be replace with no near as good, not saying he was the best. At this point milan don’t even has a team that can complete, banter era 2.0. Ages 25 and down will never know the Milan we know. After 8 years we found ourself again, and this management F**K that up.
Yea that’s the problem ain’t it!? Me.dia ppl like Vitello and the like thinking it’s all about signings, gimme gimme gimme (and we’re only two weeks in the transfer window btw). How about being responsible and say “where are the sales”? Because right now we have a bloated squad, way more than needed. And we won’t have European competition this season so we really should just be focusing on trimming the fa.t, not adding to it. How about a team of 20-23 instead of 30?

We put ourselves in the full back predicament because of a spare couple mil and because somehow we thought our homegrown product wasnt good enough. We have umpteen midfielders, why do we need another? And we actually have a striker who we abandoned after 6 months, he’s in Turkey rn.
If Max was that good let him work with the team. He knew what he was getting into.
